Is the harmonic balancer on a toyota corolla supposed to have any play (move in and out from the engine)?
I had belt troubles on my 96 Toyota Corolla and when I took them off to replace them I noticed that the Crankshaft Pulley or Harmonic Balancer moves in and out from the engine. Is this normal? What could be the problem?
Thanks,
I'm not familiar with that car / engine. However, the harmonic balancer is not typically supposed to move once it's installed. The harmonic balancer has a rubber sleeve between the yoke and the pulley that takes out any of the slight balancing issues

Replacement part For Toro Lawn mower # 99-9041 PULLEY-CRANKSHAFT
Cars have used timing belts and timing chains for decades to power the engine and a growing array of components. It encircles a belt tensioner and set of pulleys, and forms the connection between the crankshaft and camshaft. As the crankshaft revolves, it turns a pulley connected to the belt. As the belt turns, it drives a camshaft pulley that powers the camshaft. The timing belt is one of the most important components under the hood of your vehicle. Most automakers recommend replacing this part...
