is there that big of a difference with brake pads?

A bike shop recommends double H or (HH) brake pads for my sport bike. Them type are double the price. I want to buy regular brake pads off the internet that are not HH. I do not want to know which ones to buy. Would it really be that big of a difference

You get what you pay for so I suppose it comes down to how reliably you want your bike to stop when you ask it to. You could ask a different bike shop and see what they say.
