What is a 12V DC negative ground electrical system? Can I ground to the chassis of my car instead?
I recently installed a headunit into my Nissan which has no ground wires coming from the system so I grounded my HU onto a piece of metal inside of the dash. However, I just read that my headunit is to be used with a 12V DC negative grounding electrical
Yes, any car made from the late 50 or early 60's and up is a 12 volt negative ground vehicle. They specify this in the paperwork, so some dumba$s that hooks it up to his house power can't say that it didn't say not to. hahahaha.

My car had a wiring short in the main electrical system. It's at the dealer. Totally blows.

@ your car is all fixed, it wasn't the alternator it was the battery corroding and leaking into the electrical system. Light fixed too.
@ Is there a design flaw in the Solara electrical system? I have never seen a car battery die while you are driving. Unsafe!
