1997 ford explorer blinking overdrive light?

I have a 1997 Ford explorer 4x4 with an automatic tranny. For some reason it wont go into overdrive and the overdrive light keeps blinking. Does anyone know what I can do to fix the problem?
And please don't tell me to disconnect the negative battery

I have a 2003 explorer and I noticed my O/D was flashing. I took it to Auto Zone they put on the machine to find that my Selonoids went out. Come to find out my clutches were out also.... a whooping $1400.00, them peice of Sh@@ Fords.
