What do you think of the Subaru Legacy wagon 2006, compared to he Honda FIt 2007 ? I live in a rural town.?

I tried out a 2007 Honda Fit yesterday, and it was a lot of fun, and then later tried out the Subaru Legacy, which of course was heavier with a larger engine 2.5 so not as economical, but wondered what the FIt will be like to drive in the constantly

Sounds like you need the Subaru. Now, don't limit yourself to just Legacy models. The Legacy, Legacy Outback, and Tribeca are all the same frame; the Impreza and Forester share a shorter wheelbase frame. They all share the same engines and transmissions,
