Lawn Mower - Air Filter Question?

I have a 5hp Toro gas lawn mower, a few weeks ago the air filter (a paper rectangular one) and its plastic casing fell off in front of the mower and I ran over it, causing the bits to go all over the lawn. Needless to say I need to buy a new air filter

The metal piece behind the air filter is the choke. The damage you do by running without the air filter is internal to the cylinder and the piston. It is increased wear and then loss of compression. The need of the quick start says the unit has a priming
